Europe’s 9/11

The vile terrorist acts committed by the terrorist group that calls itself the Islamic State (but it is called by many others as ISIL,ISIS or Daesh) in Paris are of course very despicable. In Europe the sense of grief is as strong as that in the United States after 9/11.

What is the best response to this? I’m not sure, ┬áBut the U.S.response to the 9/11 attacks was not a good one.

They sent 100000s of troops to overthrow a government who, while being vile, was still secular and prevented jihadists from establishing a presence.Something that caused the creation of al-Qaeda in Iraq, that would later develop itself into the Islamic State group.

Meanwhile the number of ground troops used to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan was very insufficient.. And so the Taliban has survived and still continues to terrorize the country, contributing to the “refugee” crisis that is causing problems for Europe in general and my country Sweden in particular

Again, I don’t have a perfect solution, but I think we should escalate ,military and non-military, efforts against the Islamic State and similiar groups, to some extent also with ground troops, while also avoid attacking regimes who while being repulsive are still secular (that means mainly Assad in this case)
